My Fastest eBay Sale Ever At Just 16 Minutes!

This $2 thrift store item went on to sell at lightning speed.

Issue #21

This week I had some insane luck with hundreds of dollars worth of sales and some finds that I know you’re going to get envious over. $15 items that go on to list for over $500. Ten times returns in less than a week. An item that sold on eBay within 16 minutes! All that and more on, but first!

In This Issue

What I’ve Bought

I’ve bought so much yet spent so little, the perfect combination. Let’s get straight into it with the first item:

Would you have picked this up?

At just $2, it seemed like a worthwhile gamble. Surface level we have what is essentially a couple of popcorn buckets bearing the Hoyts Cinemas logo. However, the 3D bevel features scenes from the movie 'The Mask', dating back to 1994. Growing up, I loved the movie and can remember playing with the action figures - remember the ones that shouted some catch phrases when the head was twisted? Smokin!

There were zero sold comps and just 3 active listings however of the active listings, some people were watching the items so I think the gamble will pay off eventually.

Some of these prices are… wow…

I don’t have any interest turning my $1 popcorn bucket into $80-$100 so I’ve listed mine so it’s the cheapest out of the 3. At just a $1 purchase price it’s bound to make money and if not, it’s perfect for my display case.

You might recognise this next fella if you read last weeks issue of Flip Weekly (Issue #20) and did some research on Goosebumps.

Recognise this guy?

This is the famous dummy from the original Goosebumps franchise - you might recognise him from the covers of early . His name is Slappy and I picked this guy up for $2 at an independent thrift store. He’s from 1996 and was released as a promotional hand/finger puppet item with Pizza Hut. As we all know vintage Goosebumps has a dedicated community of collectors so of course I was going to pick him up, especially when comps look like this:

For a finger puppet…

Here’s something I picked up just because I’ve never seen anything like that before in a thrift store:

I’ve never seen something like this before in a thrift store.

So I was mistaken with this NHL Official Game Puck. Here I am thinking for $30 this was a steal - an official game used NHL ice hockey puck. However, after some Googling I realized that it’s just a replica of the pucks they use in the NHL, it’s not actually game used. Still, looked pretty dope:

Anaheim Ducks branding.

Official seal / sticker.

For anyone curious, the newer NHL pucks that are used in-game have tracking sensors in them (much like every other sports) so you’re able to spot them easily because they look like this:

Note the 6 sensors on both the top and the bottom.

The 6 sensors on both the top and bottom are a sign that the puck has been used in-game and are going to be worth a bit more money, especially if there were noteworthy moments in the game.

I cannot express how lucky I was to find these next 2 items:

Whilst they look like different teams, these are from the same club.

Any Australian sports fan will know what these are, but for anyone else what we have here are 2 Canberra Raiders NRL jerseys. The one on the right is a 2007 Canberra Raiders Home Jersey which is decent and worth about $100 (both cost $15 each) the one on the left is the real deal. It’s also a Canberra Raiders NRL jersey however you’ll notice that it’s much older and the logo is different. It’s actually from 1997 and was the one year they switched from the classic viking/raider logo and opted for the (pretty bad) lettering. They went back to the viking/raider immediately after.

Thanks to this, we’re looking at quite a rare jersey with comps like this:

Only 4 comps and all look like this!

This is an in-demand jersey with barely any comps and also has sold listings in the $600 range. This is a potential $15 into $600 which is crazy and if it sells would be one of my best ROI’s.

Moving on to the books, this is something you're going to want to keep an eye out for. Take a look at the images before scrolling further and see if you pick up what I saw:

15 books shown, which ones did I pick up?

What did I pick up?

What we have are a whole bunch of Warhammer 40,000 books.

5 here, I picked up more than this though.

What initially attracted me to these books was the gold text on the spine when they were sitting on the shelf and I could tell that due to the markings above the title that they were a part of the same series. I found the 2 sitting right next to each other and here’s a tip: if there’s some together like this, there may be more. So I got down and looked at the bottom shelves and came across even more. I had no idea what these were worth or if they were desirable however I was somewhat familiar with Warhammer from when I was a kid. I’ll leave it to Wikipedia to explain what it is:

Warhammer 40,000 is the most popular miniature wargame in the world. Players enact battles using miniature models of warriors and fighting vehicles. The playing area is a tabletop model of a battlefield, comprising models of buildings, hills, trees, and other terrain features. Each player takes turns moving their model warriors around the battlefield and fighting their opponent's warriors. These fights are resolved using dice and simple arithmetic.

It’s incredibly popular and branched out from the mini-figures into books, video games and other media plus the other type of merch that comes with big IP’s. In total I picked up 9 books at $4 each. One of those books was called Warhammer 40,000 - The Regent’s Shadow:

Looks like your run of the mill sci-fi book.

It has an almost 100% sell-through rate on eBay and sold comps that look like this:

$200 BIN and even on bid this thing is in the hundreds.

Suffice to say that this bundle of 9 books is worth a lot more than the $4 each I paid. Here are a few more items I picked up:

Always on the hunt for signatures. Paid $5

Not always on books. I couldn’t figure this one out though. Any ideas? Paid $8

Rugby Union jerseys will always sell and sell fast. Paid $10

After last weeks dollhouse success, I picked this up for $3.

What I Sold

Let’s start off with the item that sold in record time:

Start time: Jun 28, 2024 05:19 PM AEST

Sold time Jun 28, 2024 05:35 PM AEST

16 minutes! I think that’s legit the fastest item I’ve ever sold on eBay before. This person was based in the United States so the total order value for this $2 Pizza Hut hand puppet turned out to be $52.54! There were a few of these little figures created for the promotion so keep an eye out for them:

4 in the set, all promo for Pizza Hut.

This is the Goosebumps logo / icon on the back for identification.

If you find all 4 you’re in for a $100+ payday and I imagine they’d be priced really cheap at a thrift store or garage sale because they look like nothing.

I am always picking up these collectible, vintage Playworks tins as they sell really well for me and in most cases are sold for only a couple of bucks.

Spot the Playworks logo that is visible on the tins.

Keep an eye out for this Playworks logo on some of the older pop culture merch. If you remember back to Issue #11 I picked up a Small Soldiers Playworks tin for $3 that went on to sell for $50. These tins are popular not for their utility but because of the artwork and how well they display - perfect item to list on Facebook Marketplace.

Now earlier I wrote about the ice hockey puck that I picked up thinking it was game-used but turns out it was just a replica. Anyway, I was pretty disappointed because I sort of wanted to keep it for myself but instead decided to list it for just $50 in the hopes of a quick sale and that’s exactly what I got.

SOLD! Less than 24 hours. Only a $20 profit, but still.

It lasted less than 24 hours and I’m not surprised, you don’t see anything like that here in Australia. I might have been able to ask for more, but like I said, it was just a replica puck and comps on eBay are around the $30-$50 mark so I just wanted it out the door.

Next, I’m about to blow your mind with some insane book sales. Earlier this week I picked up 9 Warhammer 40,000 books. $4 each, total of $36. Let’s take a look at what sold.

Listed for $99.95, accepted best offer of $85.00.

The first sale from the Warhammer bundle has sold within 12 hours for a best offer of $85! It’s off to New Zealand so the buyer had to pay an extra $41.33 in postage and taxes which brings the order total up to $126.33. Reminder I bought this book for $4. We’re already in profit.

Boom, first book sold.

The next Warhammer book sold 2 days later for a full price of $59.95. It’s off to the United States so the buyer also paid $32.92 in postage and fees bringing the order total to $92.87! So far that’s $144.95 from two $4 books. Now, hold onto your hats because there’s more

Cheeky 6 have sold!

A bundle of 6 has sold on Marketplace for $225.00 + post! For those keeping count, that’s $369.95 from 8 books that were all purchased last Thursday. Not even a full week has gone by. Crazy, right? The sell-through rate on these Warhammer books is insane. You might be thinking, okay that’s 8 books sold, but what about the 9th? It has yet to sell at the time of writing this issue however it’s listed up on eBay right now for, wait for it…

I’m the cheapest listed too, so should hopefully sell.

If it sells for full price that will be an insane $36.00 into ~$500 from just a few Warhammer books. Given the way these have sold, I highly, highly recommend picking them up if you see them in the wild.

Full price on Marketplace.

As I said earlier, Rugby Union jerseys sell well and they sell fast. I picked up the jersey for $10 at the thrift store and listed it on eBay around similar comps of $89.95. I knew that if I listed it on Marketplace for a competitive price it would be gone quick, so I chucked it up for $50 at 8pm and it was sold next morning at 9am for $50 plus shipping. It 100% would have went on to sell on eBay for full price (after a few hours it had 18 views and 2 watchers) but I’m just a fan of getting that quick cash direct into my bank account. Direct that stuff straight into my veins.

Here’s a few other things I sold this week:

Paid $2, sold for $20. Took around 2 months. Novelty, but wouldn’t buy again.

Paid around $8, sold for $35. Took 6 months, wouldn’t recommend.

Always pick up your Pokemon. Paid $1 per DVD, sold for $25, quick sell-through.

What’s To Come

Next week I’ll be travelling to New South Wales one and only Savers thrift store to see how it compares with the mainstream ones here in my state. I’ll report back with my findings and hopefully we can snag some bargains. Thanks again for reading, see you next week.
