Hollywood Movie Premiere Swag Worth Hundreds - Scored for Just $25!
Three items from a huge blockbuster movie premiere, bought cheap, and flipping for big profits.

Issue #53
1st Reminder: you can listen to this weeks podcast here.
2nd reminder: enter the Flip Weekly giveaway on Instagram here.
This is Issue #53 of Flip Weekly and it’s reminded me that I completely missed the 1 year anniversary of Flip Weekly last week. We have 52 weeks in a year and I’ve now been publishing every single week for over a year. That’s crazy consistency considering everything else in my life is a bit all over the place. I’m happy we have this weekly routine together and you’re still reading. It’s very sweet, yeah? Almost as if we should be each others Valentine. Yeah? Anyway, let’s get into it.

What I Bought
I had a fun little haul this week at Lifeline. It’s rare for me to walk out a thrift store with 1 or 2 items, let alone 6. Take a look below.

Not much money in these, but I thought they were cool. Disney gargoyles from 1996.

Name a better combination than thrift stores and video games.

Thought these were cool too. Blu-ray’s designed as VHS.
We have a couple of 1996 rubber gargoyles from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame for $6 each, 2 sealed promo only Xbox 360 games for $5 each, and 2 Blu-Ray’s that are designed as VHS tapes for $3 each.
The gargoyles are something I thought were cool and I didn’t bother to comp them as they’d make a good gift if they don’t sell. We have some decent comps but they’re brand new in box:

The exact same, just in a box.
I don’t think I’ll have any trouble at least doubling my money on these things but they’re collateral damage when it comes to the other 4 items. If you take a look at the Xbox 360 games you’ll notice that they’re not only sealed, but they’re promotional copies. Thrift stores are notorious for keeping all of the good games for themselves, but I’m always looking at the selection for this very reason.
Very rarely will you ever see $50+ games, usually just games valued between $5-10 however they don’t account for the fact that sealed games and promo only games are worth more. Let’s take a look at how the prices only go up with all of these different factors using an example game: Silent Hill Downpour. The first is just your standard version that has been opened and played.

Silent Hill is always a game you want to be buying.
The next is the game brand new and sealed.

Especially sealed.
Followed by brand new, sealed and a promo only copy.

Especially, especially, especially if it’s a promo.
As you can see, the more layers we add on, the more money we can get. It all comes down to scarcity and whilst the games I picked up aren't as in demand as Silent Hill (which is an amazing game to look out for, it's basically valuable on any platform) we can still seek a premium.
I’ve listed both of my games for $69.95 each and I recommend looking at the sad pile of video games in thrift stores just to see if any are sealed or promotional copies.
Now in terms of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Labyrinth, I originally thought these were sealed VHS, an item I collect and grade. No, they’re Blu-Ray’s disguised as VHS as part of a promotional campaign launched in 2017 where only 1,000 of each were created. I got both for $3 each which I think was a steal. There are no comps but I’m going to list them for what I usually list my sealed VHS for: $49.95.
Double down on the retro aesthetic with the Rewind Collection, a limited edition run of classic films on Blu-Ray, packed in VHS-alike packaging.
This JB H-Fi exclusive brings a pretty impressive set of classic ’80s flicks (and Jurassic Park, which was ’93, plus Jaws, which was ’75) together under one banner, including The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Labyrinth and more. Each title is priced at $19.95 and limited to a mere 1000 copies, and comes in a pre-worn, slightly faded VHS-looking case for that “I paid good money for this faux authenticity” style the kids are into. They’ve even thrown in some collector cards and a limited edition t-shirt transfer with each disc for good measure.

Now, I’m about to prove that independent thrift stores are one of the best places to get high quality items from, take a look.

This is an animated GIF, it might take a minute to load.
You might see this in a thrift store and think whatever, but when I saw these 2 jerseys… I lost my words. Literally… I had a call come in just as I picked these up and I didn’t speak for the first 10 seconds. The person on the other end hung up and called me back. The reason being is that these are NRL jerseys circa 2010 and despite purchasing them for $5 each, they’re worth a combined $400. One is from 2001 and the other is from 2009.
They’re jerseys from the National Rugby League, the same sport that I sold the $2 mug (into $40) from last week. As they’re both almost or nearly 20 years old and rare, we don’t have exact comps but here’s what we can look at:

Independent website selling the 2009 for $100. Nothing on eBay.

90 GBP = $180 AUD. I checked the code and this webpage was published in 2023.

$200 back in 2021.
We can see that 1 jersey is rarer than the other. The 2009 is worth $100, straight up. The other, the one from 2001 is much more valuable and harder to find. It was selling for $200 back in 2021 and $180 in 2023. Looking at eBay comps there’s really nothing. There’s a youths jersey that sold for $99 but when it comes to jersey sales, it’s not indicative of what an adults is worth. I legit think I can list this jersey that I paid $5 for, for $300 on eBay and expect a sale within a week or two.
Let’s move on to the find that I was really excited for, we have a complete set of 3 items from the premiere opening night of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

This is an animated GIF, it might take a second to load.
I have to apologize for the shotty images, I took a video and forgot to take still photos. You can see a high resolution video of the find over on Instagram sometime soon. Let’s first go through the find, we have 3 items for $25 and they are from the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Did you see this movie?
This is a movie that came out in 2023 and was based on the tabletop role-playing game of the same name. It under performed at the box office yet most critics and people that saw it tended to like it. This honestly didn’t surprise me because I’ve been a fan of the director John Francis Daley ever since he starred in Freaks and Geeks in the late 90’s.
The swag you see above were items that were given out to people that attended the premiere at cinemas. It wasn’t available online or in-store for purchase, it had a limited manufacturing run and therefore commands a premium on the secondary market. Let’s take a look at the items and I bet you wont believe what they sell for.
1. Laser Engraved Stein

Laser engraved beer stein / drinking mug with the D&D logo.
Very few of these steins ever made it to market and those that did fetched a high price. Take a look at this sale from just last month:

Good lord.
2. Leather Satchel

Sorry for the poor image!
This satchel was pretty cool and everything was brand new with tags. The bag had never been used before, I opened it up and it still had the original paper inside plus the shoulder strap still packaged up. Quality wise it seemed decent, apparently it’s real leather… or at least parts of it.

Seems a bit underpriced considering the stein.

That’s better.
3. Beanie

Still in its original plastic.
The beanie is decent, it felt pretty heavy and looks like it’s made well. Packaging leaves a bit to be desired but it rounds out a 3 piece set which will be really attractive on eBay.

$27.50 USD approximately $43.80 AUD
This is the only D&D movie promo beanie on eBay and it’s sitting at around $40 with 5 people watching. Here’s what I’m thinking when I list it as 1 whole lot. I think the mug was an anomaly, there’s not enough data for me to think that anyone will pay $250+ for it again. I do think it’s sought after and valuable based on what I’ve seen, but not $250+. I think $120 is a good price for the bag and the other 2 items could be $50 each, maybe a bit more. Add on a premium for having everything together, brand new and selling as a lot, I’m thinking a listing price of $250. I could list individually and ask for more, but I’m happy to let it all go at once, always after the quicker sale.
What I Sold

Thank God it’s gone.
There’s no better feeling than catching a fish, giving it a kiss, and then selling it for $80 on Facebook Marketplace. I picked up this Big Mouth Billy Bass last week for $10 and I told you it was going to sell fast, they’re desirable on both eBay and Marketplace for whatever reason. I may have left money on the table by selling it for $80 on Marketplace as opposed to $129.95 on eBay, but I’m always a fan of getting the cash instantly in my bank account or wallet.

That was quick.
Did I mess up? Both of the Blu-Ray VHS that I picked up this week sold within 3 days. They’re going overseas but not to the same buyer. Americans were okay paying $80 for these, maybe Australians would have paid $80-$100? Either way, it’s a good result for me as my pricing was $49.95 including postage. As it’s off to the States they pay postage on top which means an extra what I would have paid in post now goes into my bank account. $6 total into $97.40 in less than a week.

I’ve gotten lucky with the amount of big box PC games I find.
A few weeks ago I found a couple of big box PC games in the puzzle section of a Lifeline thrift store. The first one I found for $6 has already sold (Sim City) and this Civilization that was $8 has also sold this week. They were picked up on the 8th of January so in about a month, we’ve turned $14 into $164.95.
I didn’t get a chance to talk about this next item, it was something I picked up on January 25th and it never made it into Flip Weekly.

Picked up for $10 in the thrift store.
We have a pair of headphones made by the company Skullcandy in collaboration with the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers and former player Kobe Bryant. These came out in 2010 and I was surprised to see that they were only priced at $10.

This is the same Vinnies that priced a VHS player for $150, yet these at only $10.
Anything Kobe Bryant now after he passed away in a helicopter accident back in 2020 is super collectible and cherished by fans of both him and the Lakers. When I bought these there was only 1 active sold listing and it was quite low, at $44.95 with free postage. It struck me as an outlier because in the active listings there were at least 6 with prices ranging from $70 to $220 and all of them had multiple people watching.

This one had 5 people watching.

14 watching on this pair.
I thought that a pair of supposedly rare Kobe headphones will be snatched up by a buyer sooner or later, and it’s only $10 so it made sense and what do you know 17 days later they’ve sold for a hundred bucks.
A few other sales from this week, some of which are embarrassing:

Bought before I knew what I was doing. If you can get this for $1 you might make a few bucks…

I buy a lot of graphic novels when I’m at garage sales, some are home runs, others… not so much.

Jerseys, especially Rugby jerseys, fly off the metaphorical shelf.
